My Dairy Free Friends: Have you ever watched a Buzzfeed video and oozed with jealousy over how fun the cheesey pull apart bread looks? Then you realize you will never be able to produce joy among your friends like a cheese filled baguette. And that hurts.
WELL HURT NO MORE.
I saw a recipe for a Pull Apart Christmas Tree the other day and said THAT IS IT I AM GETTING IN ON THIS PULL APART BREAD PARTY.
And here we have my Vegan Cheesey Pesto Pull Apart Christmas Tree!!!!!!!
1 Whole Wheat Pizza Dough (check the ingredients to make sure it’s milk and egg free!)
1 6oz Container of Vegan Cream Cheese
1 block of Vegan Mozzarella cut into fine short bits (Whole Foods didn’t have shreds when I was there. But if you can find them, it will probably be a lot easier)
1 TBS of Truffle Oil (Plus some extra for brushing)
¼ cup of Pesto
¼ Cup nutritional Yeast
Italian Herbs (Basil, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme Sage)
(You may also consider Marinara Sauce or Extra Pesto for Dipping)
HOW TO MAKE
-PreHeat Oven to 400 Degrees,
-In a small bowl combine Cream Cheese, Mozzarella, Nutritional Yeast, Truffle oil, and about 1/2 TBS of Italian Herbs. Mix until evenly distributed.
-Roll out your pizza dough to about 10 by 15. (It was at this point I realized I did not have a rolling pin and attempted to use an ice cream scoop. I’ve since discovered a bottle of wine makes a much better substitute rolling pin).
-You should be able to cut your pizza dough into about 30 one inch squares. You only need 23, but I liked having extra to test or to have some nut free options on the side!
-Add about a table spoon of the cheese mixture to each dough square. Roll your dough into a ball, and make sure it’s sealed tight.
-Place dough balls on a greased cookie sheet in the shape of a Christmas Tree, trunk included. use 4 balls to make a star at the top.
NOW IT’S TIME TO DECORATE!
-Brush the “tree” with pesto.
-Cut grape tomatoes in half and place them on the tree as ornaments. I was lucky enough to find a variety pack and played with various colors on the tree trunk and star.
-Sprinkle extra mozzarella on your tree.
-Put in oven for about 15-17 minutes Or until Golden Brown.
-Remove from oven and brush with Truffle Oil and season tree with Italian Herbs and Parsley.
-Sprinkle the star with nutritional yeast.
-Serve with marinara or pesto sauce for dipping. And keep your tree warm! because even Vegans don’t like cold previously melted cheese.
And there you have it! A Christmas Treat your Dairy Free friends will be very thankful for this season.
And even if you don’t have any Dairy Free friends, it’s still fun to have people shouting about your Vegan balls all night.
